AVOCADO – PROPERTIES & BENEFITS

Native to Mexico, the avocado tree (Persea gratissima) is cultivated in tropical and subtropical zones, particularly in the West Indies. It benefits from the sunny climate and ripens under the influence of the multitude Caribbean fragrances that are carried in with the trade winds.

The first cold press of the fruit flesh preserves the vitamins A, D and E in the oil. Also rich in lecithin and potassium, a true youth-promoting mineral, it also contains proteins, beta-carotene and more than 20% of essential unsaturated fatty acids (such as palmitic, palmitoleic, stearic, oleic, linoleic and linolenic acids). The sterols in the oil boost its nourishing virtues. Due to containing certain lipids, vitamins and nutrients that occur naturally in the skin, the absorption of avocado oil by the epidermis is effortless. With anti-ageing properties, it significantly increases the amount of collagen in the skin. Its nutritional, regenerative and protective virtues bring elasticity and comfort back to all skin types, especially dry and/or mature skin. Details about the main characteristics and traditional uses have been provided as information here above.

AVOCADO OIL – PAMPERING TIPS

N.B.: Avocado Oil contains a natural plant dye from tomatoes (Solanum lycopersicum fruit extract), which fades within a few weeks if left in direct sunlight for a certain amount of time. An opaque deposit may also form at the bottom of the bottle of Avocado Oil. This is liquid wax, which reinforces the nutritional qualities of the avocado oil.

Caress your face and let your aura shine

To nourish and protect your face and neckline, apply Avocado Oil in the morning by lightly massaging in, using your fingertips for the area around your eyes. Use Avocado Oil after the Aloe Vera Gel with Mint to boost moisturizing performance. As part of your evening beauty ritual, Avocado Oil cleanses make-up residue from your face and lashes. Wipe on before applying Cleansing Milk with Frangipani Flowers to boost performance and remove stubborn make-up. As part of your evening beauty ritual, Avocado Oil releases its intoxicating and addictive fragrance. You can also add a few drops to Mango Butter Cream (or Enriched Mango Butter Cream) to nourish and regenerate tired skin.

Massage your body and free your mind

Using soft strokes, apply Avocado Oil to your body when wet to relieve tension and soften your skin. After showering with Extra Mild Shower Gel – suitable for very delicate skins – Avocado Oil reinforces the virtues of this gel with its rich, velvety veil. With a wonderful melting consistency, the oil wraps your body in a warm bubble of tropical perfume, with the scent of white flowers mingling with green, aqueous notes. Used as a massage oil, it transmits a mellow, comforting feeling of well-being. A day to day use of Avocado Oil ensures a longer lasting tan. Combine with Coconut Oil for even more intensive nourishment and to combat dry skin.

Enjoy a soak in the bath for silky smooth skin

Before getting into a hot bath, apply Avocado Oil all over your body. Once in the water, gently massage all over to gain maximum benefit from the oil’s many virtues. Avocado Oil is also the perfect exfoliating complement to Papaya Peeling Shower Cream. Dry yourself after a bath by patting your body with a soft towel, leaving your skin smooth, supple and soothed.

Prevent stretch marks and find inner harmony

Avocado Oil is the perfect ally for pregnancy. Massage your body with Avocado Oil morning and evening, focusing on delicate areas (stomach, chest, thighs and bottom) to restructure the lipid barrier. Significantly improving the elasticity of the skin, Avocado Oil reduces the appearance of stretch marks and enhances your beauty regime with a sensory, emotional and affectionate dimension.

Pamper your nails for perfect hands

The oil strengthens your nails and softens your cuticles, enhancing your manicure. Applying Avocado Oil all over your hands soothes damaged and dry skin. Smoothing, revitalizing and softening, your hands will regain their wonderfully fine elegance.

Pamper your hair for a radiant look

Spread avocado Oil into damp hair and allow to rest for 30 minutes. (Wrap your head in a warm towel to boost performance.) Apply as an overnight hair mask to damaged hair to gain full benefit of the oil and perfume your hair with a fresh scent of white musk. Rinse off using Extra Mild Shampoo with Spirulina Algae and Revitalizing Cream Rinse with Cotton Seed Milk Scented Jasmine. Use a slight amount of Avocado Oil on the ends of your hair to keep them looking beautiful. Nourishing your scalp and hair prevents hair from drying out due to the wind, sun and water from the sea or pool. Avocado Oil brings shine and vitality back to dull and lifeless hair.

COCONUT – PROPERTIES & BENEFITS

The coconut palm (Cocos nucifera) is the trademark of tropical island coasts. The palm has an exceptionally long life and has played a traditional role in the beauty of Caribbean women. The fruit of this tree – the coconut – can be eaten fresh, dried, shaved, dessicated and as cream of coconut throughout the whole year. Coconut oil, obtained by pressing the dried flesh of the coconut, is used in cosmetics to nourish, soften and protect both skin and hair. Rich in fatty acids (including lauric and myristic acids) and vitamins A and E, it provides intensive nourishment for particularly dry, rough, damaged or inelastic skin. Details about the main characteristics and traditional uses have been provided as information here above.

COCONUT OIL – PAMPERING TIPS

N.B.: LIGNE ST BARTH Coconut Oil is a non-hydrogenated oil that contains no stabilisers or emulsifiers. It solidifies at temperatures below 25 °C. Simply reheat the bottle in warm water, temperature must not exceed 40 °C. Important: Do not reheat in the microwave. This reversible solidification does not affect the quality of the oil. Coconut Oil does not protect you against the sun. If you are going out in the sun, use a product with a sun protection factor corresponding to your skin type and physical activity.

Caress your face and add a touch of light

To nourish and protect your face and neckline, apply Coconut Oil in the morning by lightly massaging in, using your fingertips for the area around your eyes. Its light consistency melts instantly and brightens up all skin types, including extremely dry skin.

Refresh your body and relieve your mind

Using soft strokes, apply Coconut Oil on your body when slightly wet to relieve tension and soften your skin. After showering with Extra Mild Shower Gel – suitable for very dry skins – Coconut Oil nourishes your skin with a veil of softness. With a wonderful melting consistency, the oil swathes your body in a warm bubble of tropical perfume, with the scent of coconut mingling with delicate vanilla. Used with the gentle strokes of a massage, the oil imparts a comfortingly mellow feeling of reverie. Combine with the Avocado Oil for even more intensive nourishment and to combat your dry skin.

Enjoy a soak in the bath for silky smooth skin

Before getting in the bath, add one or two capfuls of Coconut Oil. When in the bath, gently massage all over to gain maximum benefit from the oil’s many virtues. Coconut Oil is also the perfect exfoliating complement to the Papaya Peeling Shower Cream. The oil strengthens your nails and softens your cuticles, enhancing your manicure. Applying Coconut Oil all over your hands soothes damaged and dry skin. Allow the Coconut Oil to work overnight by wearing gloves. The oil also lends itself perfectly to treating calluses and dry feet. Use in a foot spa, or apply after a gentle exfoliation with a pumice stone, before taking a bath. Alternatively, apply Coconut Oil and allow to work overnight beneath socks. Smooth, revitalized and soft, your hands and feet will regain their wonderfully fine elegance.

Pamper your hair for a radiant look

ALOE VERA – PROPERTIES & BENEFITS

Belonging to the aloe species, aloe vera or Barbados aloe (Aloe barbadensis) has been known since antiquity, and was used by the Egyptians for its medicinal and cosmetic properties more than 3,000 years ago. Legend even has it that Cleopatra used to add aloe vera juice to her bath. Traditional medicine began using this plant back in the 17th century in many hot regions of the world, including the Caribbean, where it is still widely cultivated today. The spiky, leathery-looking leaves of this oily plant are carefully cut to obtain the transparent pulp, which is known as aloe vera gel or juice.

Very rich in vitamins (A, B, C, E, etc.), trace elements and minerals (such as calcium, phosphorous, potassium, iron, etc.), enzymes (including bradykinin, which relieves swelling and promotes skin healing), sugars (mannose 6-phosphate and acemannan, which moisturizes and softens), glycoproteins and amino acids (phenylalanine, leucine, lysine, etc., which play a role in skin tissue regeneration), polysaccharides, etc., the aloe vera is a substantial mine of virtue. A beauty formula within a formula, this natural resource unravels a multitude of different virtues – soothing, moisturizing, regenerating, purifying, astringent, toning – which can benefit all skin types!

Details about the main characteristics and traditional uses have been provided as information here above.

N.B.: The allantoin within the formula boosts the soothing, softening and regenerative qualities of the aloe vera juice.

In addition, spearmint (Mentha viridis) and peppermint (Mentha piperita) complement and reinforce each other. Although both are stimulating, astringent and refreshing, spearmint is known to be more regenerative, whereas peppermint is proven to be more purifying.

ALOE VERA GEL WITH MINT – PAMPERING TIPS

Refresh your face and revitalise your beauty

Use morning and evening as a basic beauty treatment, gently applying a thin layer of Aloe Vera Gel with Mint into your face, around your eyes and over your neckline. Alternatively, apply more generously in a thick layer to moisturize, soothe and protect your skin. Alcohol-free and non-greasy, this gel creates a feeling of instant freshness. Soft and embracing, this fluent green gel is packed with the vivacious virtues of freshly cut mint.

The moisturizing gel soothes heated skin after sunbathing and relieves prickly skin or razor burn, bringing instant relief to all types of skin. The gel releases vitamins and essential trace elements helping the restoring of the epidermis. It revitalizes and beautifies all skin types, especially mature, dull, dry and sensitive skin.

Used as a facial moisturizing serum, it allows day or night cream to be absorbed more effectively. Use as a base before applying the Mango Butter Cream (or Enriched Mango Butter Cream) or the Moisturizing Facial Fluid HOMME.

Apply Avocado Oil after the Aloe Vera Gel with Mint to boost moisturizing performance.

Refresh your body and free your mind

Use a generous amount of Aloe Vera Gel with Mint as an everyday moisturizer or for specific needs – after hair removal, in an air-conditioned environment, on a long-haul flight, after sunbathing or after sport or a sauna. Reapply regularly to combat moisture loss. For an even fresher feeling, simply place the bottle in the fridge prior to using. This beauty treatment pampers mature, unstressed or dilated skin with the virtues of aloe vera juice. It also provides relief for stretched, lifeless, undernourished and heated skin.

Soothe your scalp and feel as though your head is in the clouds

Use Aloe Vera Gel with Mint as a mask, preferably in the evening, by applying a generous amount to your scalp and hair. Massage in using your fingertips to moisturize a dry scalp. This purifying treatment helps the maintenance of oily hair. As part of your morning beauty ritual, rub a little gel into damp or dry hair to style and protect it, giving dull hair a fresh, tonic boost.

PAPAYA – PROPERTIES & BENEFITS

The papaya tree (Carica papaya L.), which is widely cultivated in the Caribbean, is an evergreen shrub whose leaves are grouped together at the top, resembling a palm.

Its fruit – the papaya – is rich in vitamin C and provitamin A, as well as vitamins E, B1, B2, B5, B9, potassium, calcium and magnesium. The many ways in which the papaya is used in the cosmetics and pharmaceutical industries are linked to its papain content. Papain is an important proteolytic enzyme renowned for its effect on dead skin cells, promoting skin renewal and improving the texture of the skin. The Caribbean Indians used papaya as a meat tenderiser, and it is still used as such to this day in the West Indies. A decoction of papaya tree leaves was traditionally prescribed to aid digestion.

The latex in the plant has also been used for centuries due to its therapeutic properties. It is applied to irritated skin and wounds to disinfect them, soften the tissue and encourage regeneration of the cells. Compresses prepared with the flesh of the fruit also provide relief, heal burns and soothe rheumatism. Papaya also contains catechin (a powerful antioxidant found in green tea), which helps combat ageing of the skin.

Details about the main characteristics and traditional uses have been provided as information here above.

N.B.: LIGNE ST BARTH uses the flesh from fresh papayas from neighbouring islands. The enzyme-rich orange flesh is chopped by hand and its juice is extracted for use in our cosmetic formulas. The micro-pearls of jojoba wax reinforce the emollient and gentle the exfoliating effects of the papaya extract by naturally removing cell debris and pollution residue without being aggressive to your skin. The nourishing and softening effect of coconut oil prevents skin dehydration.

SPIRULINA ALGAE – PROPERTIES & BENEFITS

The blue-green micro-seaweed, spirulina (Spirulina maxima) is a spiral filament that grows in the saline and alkaline lakes in hot tropical or subtropical regions. Due to its exceptional nutritional qualities it was adopted by the Incas as a basic foodstuff. They extracted it from lakes and dried it in the pure, dry air of the Andes, where the constant sun promoted photosynthesis and maximised the concentration of vitamins, such as A, E and beta-carotene, as well as phytonutrients. Exceptionally rich in proteins (more than 70%), minerals and trace elements (including calcium, phosphorous, magnesium and iron), spirulina is renowned as a cosmetic ingredient that prevents ageing of the skin and nourishes and strengthens hair.

Details about the main characteristics and traditional uses have been provided as information here above.

MANGO – PROPERTIES & BENEFITS

The mango tree (Mangifera indica L.) is an evergreen native to India and Burma. It is widely cultivated in the Caribbean for its fleshy fruit that is rich in vitamin C and has a sweet, aromatic flavour. The mango was introduced into the West Indies in the 18th century to provide food for the colonists and slaves, and is now grown in many private gardens. Mangos are one of the most commonly eaten fruits in the Caribbean islands. The very juicy flesh surrounds a flat, smooth stone, in the middle of which is a large almond that contains a creamy, yellowy fat known as mango butter. This precious oily substance, obtained by cold-pressing the stone, boasts emollient virtues. Extremely rich in fatty acids (including isostearic and oleic acids), and containing unsaponifiables (phytosterols, oleic alcohol, squalene and polyphenols), it creates an excellent protective barrier for the skin and helps regenerate the epidermis.

COCONUT – PROPERTIES & BENEFITS

The coconut palm (Cocos nucifera) is the trademark of tropical island coasts. The palm has an exceptionally long life and has played a traditional role in the beauty of Caribbean women. The coconut oil prevents dehydration, while nourishing and softening the epidermis.

IVY – PROPERTIES & BENEFITS

Climbing ivy (Hedera helix L.) is an arborescent liana found in temperate Eurasian zones of the northern hemisphere, probably descending from a tropical ancestor. In the woods, animals are believed to roll themselves in trampled ivy to try and heal their wounds and calm pain. Obtained from dried ivy leaves using a cold process, the ivy extract contains flavonoids and saponins (hederagenin glycosides, hederacoside C, alpha- and betahederin), lending to its vasoconstrictive, toxin-eliminating and flushing properties. Renowned for its virtues that drain and stimulate the lymphatic system, ivy is used as a slimming and firming ingredient, as well as for the soothing of irritated skin.

Details about the main characteristics and traditional uses have been provided as information here above.

N.B.: The bladderwrack contained within the formula is combined with ivy to reinforce its skin-firming and smoothing properties. Extracts of bladderwrack, meadowsweet and ivy are produced on the island of Saint Barthélemy, thanks to the expertise of the LIGNE ST BARTH laboratory.

CAMPHOR – PROPERTIES & BENEFITS

Camphor is an organic compound extracted from the camphor laurel or camphor tree (Cinnamomum camphora) obtained by distilling its wood. Although native to South East Asia, this small tree has now become acclimatised to other latitudes, up to the island of Madagascar.

With a unique, long-lasting odour, camphor wood boasts invigorative, tonic and insect-repelling properties. This explains why it used to be favoured by makers of trunks for holding furs, so that it would keep away the mites. Renowned in the pharmaceutical industry for its antiseptic and anaesthetic properties (main ingredient in Tiger Balm), camphor is included in a multitude of therapeutic muscle-relaxant remedies.

MENTHOL – PROPERTIES & BENEFITS

Menthol is renowned for its powerful refreshing effect, as well as its anti-inflammatory and decongestant properties and its ability to soothe insect bites, cuts, and pain and tension in muscles and joints. It also fights against rheumatism, stimulates circulation and provides relief for heavy legs and hot feet. Details about the main characteristics and traditional uses have been provided as information here above.

N.B.: The menthol contained within the formula reinforces the invigorating and toning properties of the camphor.

Relaxing Body Oil with Camphor & Menthol is not suitable for children under the age of 6.

BANANA – PROPERTIES & BENEFITS

The banana tree (Musa sapientum) is a hardy herbaceous plant belonging to the Musaceae family. The banana plant grows in tropical, hot and humid climates, and is native to India, the Melanesian islands in the Pacific, Indonesia and New Guinea. The fruits of this plant – bananas – grow in “bunches” and are sold in “hands”, and represent a staple foodstuff for millions of inhabitants of the tropics. In the West Indies, bananas play a key role in both agriculture and the economy. They are widely cultivated in this region and eaten as a fruit or vegetable, either yellow or green. They are reputed for their numerous health benefits, particularly as they contain vitamins A, B, C and E, as well as minerals such as potassium and magnesium. Their sugar and mucilage content lends them their nourishing, softening and moisturizing benefits for the skin.

N.B.: LIGNE ST BARTH removes the soft flesh of Guadeloupe bananas by hand before it is cold pressed. A combination of traditional extraction processes that are unique to LIGNE ST BARTH laboratories has resulted in this water-in-oil emulsion free from synthetic stabilising agents. The aloe vera contained within the formula boosts the moisturizing and soothing virtues of the banana extract, while the allantoin and bisabolol soothe and stimulate renewal of the epidermis.
